Movie Review:
Pink Panther 2
Sony Pictures
THE PINK PANTHER 2, the sequel to the 2006 worldwide hit, stars Steve Martin as he reprises the role of intrepid-if-bumbling French police detective Inspector Jacques Clauseau, who in this film is charged with tracking stolen artifacts. Even though the bit about political correctness near the beginning of this movie is hilarious, the film has way too many sexual connotations to merit viewing by families with young children. This is unfortunate, both because Steve Martin is an incredibly hilarious actor and also because the Pink Panther cartoon was a one-time favorite of children everywhere. I watched this film with my wife and three barely teenage children. My son (the youngest) thought it was a “funny” movie, while one teenage daughter thought it was “just okay and a bit stupid“ and the other thought the jokes were way too predictable (though she had several LOL moments throughout the movie). Oh yes, and so much for reflecting God’s view of marriage at the end of this film, when Martin proclaims an anti-biblical view of “obey.” Granted, taken in its entirety this is a funny film, but when viewed with a family—or with the Lord Himself—I’d probably have a little ‘splainin to do.
